Pirelli held its Snow on Board event at the Igora Park skidrome north of St Petersburg earlier today, showing off not just its tyres, but its latest snowboard developed with Burton, and its new-season Pzero fashion items. On board were F1 driver Vitalij Petrov, and Russian models Eugenia Volodina (who featured in the 2005 Pirelli calendar) and Tanya Mutyusina.
In –10°C temperatures, Pirelli brought together BMW X5 and X6 models, and a Range Rover Evoque, to demonstrate the tyres’ suitability to winter conditions.
Petrov demonstrated the difference between summer and winter tyres in these conditions, with braking taking up to 30 m more with summer tyres, even at low speeds, says Pirelli.
Meanwhile, the Pzero snowboarding kit features the Mistery snowboard, which is the lightest ever made by Burton. Pirelli’s boots, meanwhile, take the principles established by the tyres, ensuring snowboarders get maximum grip. Ion bindings help fasten the boots to the boards.
The Pzero snowsuits also use high-performance Pirelli materials, with the company showing the Winter Sotterzero designs.
